CARNIVAL happened in the middle of our haulout . . .

The complete madness of it starts with J'Ouvert - at 2am Monday morning:
pan bands, paint, grease and . . . MUD!

Kadisha plays "dirty mas" every Carnival, her mask and tail have been with her for years.

Jack likes to play in the mud too.

Painted up for J'Ouvert, and
waiting for our posse.

Our posse,
Jack, Lauren, Chrissi, Kadisha and Ian

Tuesday is Carnival day, when the sparkly mas bands come out to wine, chook, and shake de bamballa.

The theme of our posse this year was
King Neptune and his Naughty Denizens,
and Chrissi spent many days making the costumes.

The crowds were large, the music was loud,
the sun beat down on us all day long,
and all of Port-Of-Spain
jumped up and participated in
the wild and wonderful festivities.

"Osama" lent Jack his rifle

Look who we found!
It's a long way from Afghanistan,
and a different kind of war zone.

The backs of our costumes
really show the theme for our posse,
and here is a sexy picture
of our soggy green leader
parading down Charlotte Street.

Jack struts his "tail"

Beautiful Kadisha,
our African mermaid

You can see the mountain of garbage
in the background here,
an unfortunate aspect of Carnival.

...I find myself on a J'Ouvert morn
with a sexy Maruga man,
cant remember me husband name...
